Reason for leaving KL Rahul in 5th T20I against England: Virat Kohli

Opener K.L. Rahul was knocked out of India’s playing eleven for the fifth and final T20I against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

When Virat Kohli and Eoin Morgan got up for the toss, many expected India to remain with Rahul, assuming that they were selected for all four matches. While talking to the broadcaster after losing the toss, Kohli revealed that India made a change to bring more balance in the team.

We have made a change today. [हम] Want to bring good balance with bat and ball. Suryakumar [यादव] Our team has X Factor players and we want to give them more and more games. KL Rahul missed. And [टी।] Natarajan comes for her, Kohli said.

Suryakumar Yadav scored a superb fifty in his first international innings in the last match and Kohli decided to bring an extra bowler due to Ishan Kishan’s waist hampering his selection. India have gone with six bowlers in this game, as opposed to five in previous games.

The captain also said that he has ordered the opening of the innings along with fellow senior Rohit Sharma.

KL Rahul, after warming the bench during the Australia and England Test series, returned to the national side for the ongoing T20I series. In the first four matches, he bounced back with two ducks and two low scores of 1 and 14 respectively.

While pundits, former players and fans called for the Karnataka batsman to be dropped, Kohli publicly endorsed Rahul, saying he had the support of the management.

Rahul now has an upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season to redeem himself, find form and regain his place in that already strong batting order.

India have been picked to bat after Eoin Morgan won another coin toss. Both teams have traded blasts so far as the five-match series is currently closed at 2-2.
