Ipl 2021: KL should not open if there is such a strategy: Nehra pulls down captain of Punjab Kings for poor management of bowlers against DC

Former Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra on Sunday slammed Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul for the poor management of their bowlers against the Delhi Capital in the match number 11 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in Mumbai. Despite setting a mammoth target of 196 runs, PBKS lost the game with six wickets and 10 balls remaining.

Shikhar Dhawan played a brilliant innings during the chase, scoring a massive 49 off 49 balls to give DC a comprehensive win. His innings took 13 fours and 2 sixes.

After the match ended, Nehra stated that Punjab failed to utilize their bowling resources, which caused them to spend the game despite piling up runs.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Nehra said that the team needs to come out with better strategy in the upcoming games.

See, there are some things that every player wants to do in this format. You like to bowl well, bat well, perform brilliantly. You have good or bad days, this is a common thing in this game. But there are some things that are under your control, at least that you can do, Nehra told Cricbuzz.

You did not give the initial overs to your most expensive foreign bowlers. Meredith came after 10 overs and took the wicket of Steve Smith in his first over. Even Shami bowled four overs in four different spells. You preferred Arshdeep to begin with. So, where will you control this game – frontend or backend.

The former cricketer also said that the PBKS captain and coach need to sit together and plan better for the upcoming games.

If there is such a strategy, KL should not open from next time. Either they send Jalaj Saxena, Shami or Shah Rukh – whichever they want. Therefore, as a captain, Rahul needs to ponder and sit down and discuss with Anil Kumble as he needs to come up with a strategy that I did not understand today.

PBKS messed up their bowling plans. He played four different bowlers to begin with. Such things are mostly done by parties who lack resources. So, I think, that they made the biggest mistake.
