Rishabh Pant has returned to the Indian team this year. After a vigorous run in 2019 and 2020, Pant found himself out of the team on several occasions, with KL Rahul replacing him as the first choice in the team in limited-overs cricket. Pant’s struggles in the IPL 2020 also did not help and he was left out of India’s limited overs squad for the tour of Australia.
But since then, the wicketkeeper-batsman has written a new story for himself. His match-saving contribution in the Sydney Test and his match-winning innings in the Adelaide Test against the powerful Australian team started a new chapter in Pant’s career.
The left-handed batsman made another great performance in the Test series against England this year and then also played an important role in the ODIs, with India winning the series 3–2. Pant has become one of the most feared players for the opposition, and former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq believes that he was the difference between India and England in the ODI series.
Which player is he? After a long time, I have seen a player who plays much better than you think about your player. It seems to be playing under pressure, Inzamam said in a video uploaded to his YouTube channel.
Even in Australia, when all the seniors were out with injuries, their comfortable batting in the middle order looked as if India had not lost any wickets or were not playing on Australian soil.
Earlier, the players struggled while playing Down Under but Pant was not bothered. Previously in the 70s, Vivian Richards differentiated between the West Indies and any other side. Similarly, Pant was the difference between India and England.
Inzamam further said that Pant’s 78-run knock in the third ODI was tremendous as it came on a wicket in which the batsmen were struggling against the spinners.
It was not easy to score against the spinners, as we all saw Virat Kohli getting out by Moin Ali. More than 100. No other batsman has a strike rate higher than 100, Inzamam said.
Virat said, Pant promoted this order. India put pressure on three senior players Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and the pressure on India increased. But Pant played a key role in releasing the pressure.
