Sources said that Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will start campaigning in Assam for BJP from Sunday when he addresses four rallies in Biswanath and Golaghat districts.
Two of Singh’s rallies will be held in tea gardens and one in Gohpur, a historic place associated with the Quit India movement.
Sources said that the Defense Minister would hold a rally at Sadru Tea Estate and another at Daflagur Tea Estate under Bishwanath constituency from where BJP candidate Pramod Borthakur is seeking re-election.
His third rally will be in Gohpur for BJP candidate Utpal Bora, who is contesting against Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora.
The defense minister will address a rally in Durgaon in Golaghat district where he will campaign for BJP’s Assam ally AGP candidate Bhabendra Nath Bharali.
Singh is expected to address a large number of rallies in Assam during his several visits to the state in the next one month.
The elections to the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly will be held in three phases on 27 March 1 April and 6 April.
The BJP is contesting the elections along with its coalition partners AGP and UPPL.
